When my editor asked me to write this story on Cleveland Steamer I flat out refused. I mean, who gives a shit what I think? But, as the night went on and the drinking got heavier I thought, why the hell not? I may be broke, unattractive, tattooed and scarred but I know my damn music. Punk and Rock-n-Roll is my soul. Damnit, I had to do it anyway, he picked up the
tab. How do I start, their sound is not easily described. they come at you with angst, heart and bluecollar fury. Imagine if rock gods Motorhead and AC/DC had a child... a big stupid one. Then in your mind’s eye see this kid sitting on your couch, one hand down his dirty diaper, the other hand draining bottle after bottle of beer. THIS BABY’S SOUL IS ON FIRE! The sound of broken bottles, the fuzzy feeling a drunk remembers of the night before that helps him through the day only to repeat it all over again when the sun goes down. Can you see it? Cleveland Steamer at you! Cleveland Steamer has played with the likes of Agent Orange, The Bronx, Lazy Cowgirls, Real Mckenzies, The Kinison and GreggGinn to name a few. I’ve heard stories of their Northern California tour at theend of 2004 and some 2800+copies sold of their two self released E.P.’s in the last year. I asked Scott Damn how he wanted me to close this. As he drank a bottle of beer in one gulp, he smiled, pointed his finger back at me and said “I hope you hate it, you deserve it, now buy me a beer”. It’s good to know that bands like Cleveland Steamer, who don’t care about wads of cash or being the NEXT BIG THING, are still around. The beer is gone and my eyes are weary.
